Carla Maniscalco-Giovinco is an Italian-American mezzo-soprano performing a diverse array of repertoire throughout the greater Boston area.
Her performance credits include Evita, La Femme Boheme, The Pirates of Penzance, Le Nozze di Figaro, The Medium, Carmen, Suor Angelica, Lucia di Lammermoor, Dido and Aeneas, Cosi Fan Tutte, Die Zauberflöte, Don Giovanni, and Dialogues of the Carmelites. In addition to opera, Ms. Maniscalco-Giovinco is equally at home on the concert stage as a soloist and ensemble singer.
She has appeared with the Salem Philharmonic Orchestra as a soloist, performing a selection of beloved opera arias by Puccini, Massenet, and others. She is a frequent performer in concert with North End Music and Performing Arts Center, New England Light Opera & Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and Longwood Opera. Ms. Maniscalco-Giovinco is also an avid recitalist and liturgical musician, singing weekend, funeral, and wedding services at several churches throughout the North Shore.
She has studied voice in Rome, Italy and Tirol, Austria and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York City in 2009, a Masters Degree in Opera from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in 2012, and a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in 2013, and also has extensive training as a dancer.
During her performance studies she developed a love of all aspects of theater, which led her to production management. Carla feels that working behind the scenes can be just as rewarding as being in the spotlight. She has experience working on wardrobe, run crew and stage management with several regional companies, MassOpera, (where she held the position of Director of Productions for four years) NEMPAC Opera, North Shore Music Theater, Opera del West, Rising Stars Productions and the Summer Institute of the Vocal Arts, being among them.
Working on all aspects of a production from the initial idea to the final execution is thrilling and exhilarating. Ms. Maniscalco-Giovinco works as the Director of Production at MassOpera and she is one of the Co-Producers of the North Shore Voices Concert Series, and continues to work as a Freelance Stage Manager around Boston, MA. One of Ms. Maniscalco-Giovinco's favorite credits was working at The Summer Institute of the Vocal Arts.
Additionally, Ms. Maniscalco-Giovinco is a music educator with a flourishing private studio, where she uses her on stage experiences as well as a strong technical foundation to help her students develop their talents.
